Why Is Everything In My Life Bad?

Because You Aren't Focusing On The Good

For a very long time and I think we are all taught this...for a very long time what I tried to do was find everything that was wrong and fix it.  When I went down the self improvement path, that is exactly what I was doing.  I found all of the things I didn't like about myself and tried to improve them.  It doesn't work that way, well, it does...BUT it doesn't work as well as focusing on the good and improving upon those skills.

It is okay to be bad at things, not all things were meant for you.  You can have all of the passion in the world, but if you are bad at the skill you are trying to develop, you are wasting a lot of time to be mediocre at best.  I suppose a person could go on to be the best one-handed guitarist in the world, but you are still a one-handed guitarist.

That being said, when are you going to start developing whatever skill you want to develop, focus on what goes right.

For me, I have to go back to my weight loss journey.  For those of you that don't know me, I used to be obese.  I dropped 70 lbs about 3 years ago and it changed my life.  I have always been relatively successful and able to do things, but this was a game changer.   This wasn't the first time I had tried to lose the weight, but it was the first time I had success.  Biggest reason was that I didn't give up.  Second biggest reason was that I focused on my accomplishments, not my failures.  I focused on what worked.  Before,  I would focus on what didn't work.

There is a difference between:

"Oh man, I only got 5 minutes on the recumbent bike before I had to stop, this is never going to work."

                                                                              and

" Sweeeeet....I did 5 minutes on the recumbent bike today!  I haven't done this much exercise in 5 years!"

A difference between:

"I overate today."

            and

"My diet overall for the week was very good, let's get back at it right now."

You can apply this principle to every area of your life.  I am not saying use it as an excuse for mediocrity, but as a building block.  Use it to instill confidence in yourself that you are doing the right things.  Then push to your limit the next day.  You don't have to start out running marathons, as a matter of fact that is a great way to fail at everything.  If you look at a marathon as 26.2 miles, well that sounds impossible.  But if you look at it like running a mile 26.2 times...well you can accomplish that over a month...and then start bringing it in.  Same with weight loss.  I didn't lose 70 lbs all at once...I lost 1 lb 70 times...Well, probably more like 140 times of the course of 6 or so months with just the fluctuations you go through.

Focus on your strengths and accomplishments...not your weaknesses and failures...Over time you will have success.

As always, thank you for your time and attention.
